  • Madrone Salad Bowl

    Madrone Salad Bowl

in Gallery, Julian Lee, Julian Lee Gallery, Madrone Wood Bowl, Shop, Wood Bowls

Madrone salad or fruit bowl with grain figure across the bowl and slight birds eye burl on one edge.   This was turned green and has the characteristic madrone movement as it dries, leaving the bowl with a distinctive character of its own.   It is slightly out of round with unusual wrinkling and a wave on the rim.   It is finished with Dalys Profin Oil and is food safe.

Approx 15″ in diameter and 4.5″ deep

    Large Oak Salad Bowl

in Gallery, Julian Lee, Julian Lee Gallery, Oak Wood Bowl, Shop, Wood Bowls

This tree was blown over while visiting Mendicino, California.   A rare opportunity for me to turn Oak.   Although this is a conventional edge bowl, the drying process has created ovality that enhances the lip.   The natural color patches are an added attraction.   This is finished with Min Wax wipe on polyurethane and is food safe.

Approx 18″ in diameter and 6″ deep

    20″ Oak Salad Bowl

in Julian Lee, Julian Lee Gallery, Oak Wood Bowl, Shop, Wood Bowls

Very large, shallow, highly colored Oak.  This tree was blown over while visiting Mendicino, California.   A rare opportunity for me to turn Oak.    Very functional as a salad, fruit or display bowl.    Finished with Min Wax wipe on polyurethane – food safe.   This was turned green and the natural drying has induced great character improvments with a wavey rim and out of roundness.

    Approximately 20″ in diameter & 4.5″ deep

  • Madrone Burl Wood Bowl by Julian Lee

Madrone Burl Wood Bowl by Julian Lee

    in Julian Lee Gallery

This  root was part of a monster madrone tree that was growing at Cap Sante Anacortes and blew over in a wind storm.   The root was in excess of 8 tons in weight and was a delight to turn, once I had overcome the logistics of getting it to my workshop!

    Walnut Bowl by Julian Lee

    in Julian Lee Gallery

This is one of very few walnut bowls that I have turned.   I have discovered that walnut wood is very high on the toxicity list and one to which  my body violently reacts.
